Social awareness allows us to understand the emotions, behaviors, and needs of others. Self-management skills, on the other hand, ensure we can regulate our own emotions, behaviors, and needs.

In this blog, we look at human intelligence and wellness across four pillars:

      1. Self-Awareness (Understand Yourself)

      1. Social Awareness (Understand Others)

      1. Self Management (Lead Yourself)

      1. Relationship Management (Manage Relationships)

Understanding Your Strengths and Areas for Growth

Leading balanced lives requires skills derived from each quadrant. Use this as a roadmap for assessing your current strengths and charting a path for growth in other areas.

Having Social Awareness without ⛔ Self Management

Someone who is socially-aware, but lacks self-management understands how their behavior affects others, but struggles with the skills or willingness to make behavioral adjustments based on that insight.

They often share good ideas for how people should improve their lives, but don’t model those principles themselves. Being known for giving wise advice–yet unable to put the advice into practice in their own life–makes them come across as judgemental instead of wise.

They find it difficult to maintain focus and discipline, even though they can recognize the importance of a task or goal. There’s a disconnect between their understanding of what they are supposed to do and their ability to actually follow through on plans. Over time, this leads to self-doubt, frustration from being out of alignment with aspirations, and stagnation.

If this sounds like you, since you thrive socially, you could benefit from partnering with a friend, coach, or mentor who can hold you accountable for your efforts.
